Welcome aboard! You will find much help and support here from everyone.

My grandmother taught me how to knit & crochet when I was 14. I took to the crocheting immediately and figured out the knitting 8 years later when she was in a nursing home senile & paralyzed.

Welcome!

Although I am from Georgia, my parents lived in Salem, MA for 20 years (until 5 years ago).

It is nice to meet another knitter who also crochets. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Thank you all for the welcome. I am making Christmas presents for my family and the knitted ones look great! I made a hat and scarf for my other half which is crocheted. I needlepointed a stocking and I just have to back it.

Hi all, welcome to you, I'm new as well. Waiting patiently for my Masters Level I package. New to the Blogging thing, although I've been knitting and crocheting from about 9. Learned from my Grandmother. Focused on crocheting, sewing and quilting over the years. Rediscovered my love for knitting about 10 years ago. Redefined my yarn snobishnes..as a result of the out pouring of new and improved LYS's in New York City. I've beent teaching others for a few years now, and am happy to say that I am bringing many more into the fold.

Wizard-one.. Smiler I do a bit of quilting as well. my goal is to see how i can incorporate the two together. Knitting and quilting....into one piece... perhaps knitting pieces, felting them, and using pieces for the quilt or as appliques...

How do you like felting? I just can't seem to get an interest in it. I am a purist at heart and felting isn't my taste. I would like to see knitting and quilting together. I have seen crazy quilts which incorporates embroidery and quilting. If embroidery can be used I don't see why knitting can't be used. Appliques that are knitted or crochet. Smiler

My felting is slow going...because i have a front loader, and it is hard to get a top loader around here. So i have been doing it by hand. Just discovered that i should use my exfoliating gloves to help the process. So i guess i will give it another shot. Some appliqued flowers, 3 dimensional items...i will try once i get through the levels and can touch the "precious" pin... Big Grin

There are a few patterns that incorparate quilting and knitting in old Interweave Knits magazines. They used quilting patterns like double wedding ring and made them in knitting patterns. No felting but a lot of sewing though.
I'm working one the double wedding ring myself, but use it as an "in between" project. I knit a few elements and sew them together to make a bigger block. Then I store them for later use, and go on the another project. BTW they advice you to sew together while knitting, because of the tons of nasty work you have to do at the end otherwise.
The elements are all knitted in garter stitch and the pattern is very easy to remember.
My knitted quilt is getting beautiful (at least i think so).

The knitted quilt pattern idea is intriguing. I experimented a little with it a while back and then got distracted. You could do a nine patch with mitered squares. That could even mean no sewing. Log cabin variations would work also. How about a Bear Paw or a Paths and Gardens. Could you knit a hexagon? After I get done with the sweater I'm working on maybe I'll experiment some more with some of my many left over bits.

There's some more information on "af-quilts," the term coined by Lady Wildcat, in the thread called "Backing a Blanket."

Cool, knitterb i think the mitered squares would be great, as well as the hexagon, the vogue from last year summer had a hexagonal pattern that would work. However, isn't the whole purpose to then quilt the top, filler and backing. isn't that what a quilt really is. hmmm, i wonder, after i get partway through level one, perhaps, i will start thinking seriously about this. I also wonder about the af-quilts bb, i did see that... E
