I am making this shawl from Meg Swanson's book, A Gathering of Lace, have printed the erratica, and still having problems. Chart C labels a 42-st repeat which does work into the total number of stitches correctly, but the chart only shows 32 stitches and that does NOT work out right. Is the chart incorrect, should I just add more to the pattern till I get 42 sts or will that just make the whole thing off? This is driving me crazy, I have spent 6 months already on this and I'm ready to throw it away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope someone can help.

This is a really gorgeous shawl! And yes, chart C does show a 42-stitch repeat. Each "sl1-k2tog-psso" uses 3 stitches but only takes up one square on the graph. Try doing one repeat as shown, and you will find it requires a total of 42 stitches.

I am sure we'd all love to see a picture when you're done - please post a link!

Oh thank you so much! I was hoping it was something simple I just wasn't seeing. I didn't think to count before the row was completed.
It's so good to know some of you are still around. I haven't been here for quite a while as I've been so busy knitting! My twin (and I) turn 50 next Feb and I thought this would be a great birthday gift for her. I would love to post a pic of it when it's finished, it will be quite an accomplishment for sure. I have yarn purchased for my younger sister's shawl using the Aeolian pattern from Knitty.com, and a couple patterns in mind for my older sister's shawl. Well, better get back to it, 1500 sts on size 0 ndles is tedious.
Thanks again so much, you don't know how much I appreciate the help, I can't stand it when my knitting frustrates me. The whole world suffers with me. Razzer (or because of me)

You are most welcome! You must have a close-knit family - such wonderful gifts you are planning for your sisters. I am sure they will be in awe, and treat the shawls as family heirlooms. What yarn are you using? I did take a look at the Aeolian - WOW!

I am looking for a shawl pattern suitable for use as a wedding veil, if necessary. This probably requires some explanation: We have a 10-year old granddaughter. I may not be there for her when/if she decides to marry, and would like to make something now, to be presented to her at the proper time. The "Ingrid's Bridal Knot Shawl" from "A Gathering of Lace" is not quite to my liking - I will keep looking.

Do show us the finished product!

I love your idea of a shawl that can double as a veil. I don't like the bridal knot pattern in A Gathering of Lace either. The lacier the pattern, the better I like it. I am using KnitPicks Gloss yarn in bare for the current one and Pinot for the Aelian one which also uses beads so hope to find some awesome beads to set off the dark purple color. I don't like the bare color, it is so off white so I'm going to let my sister decide if she wants to dye it or leave it. Without a local yarn supply of any kind except Walmart I am pretty much limited to the internet which is hard to choose colors and textures. The Knit Picks gloss lace yarn is wool/silk blend and very soft. I've been pleased with it. And it's very reasonably priced. Brown Sheep company is about 5 miles out my back door but not open on weekends when I'm off work so I don't get to shop there as much as I'd like. I love their yarn too!
Well, back to knitting.
