I am planning to do the Masters classes and was reading a thread about good books to have. I recently bought the Knitters Handbook (Stanley) 1996, and have to say it it one of the most comprehensive techniques books that I have seen. In addition to that I have the Big Book of Knitting. With those two books and possibly the Vogue knitting book, I think I will will have a pretty good resource library for the course.
Any input to other books that may be personal favorites? The tax refund is in the bank so when I get home I get to order my courses! I am so excited! Ed Ed |

Those may be all you'll need for technical references. For other levels of the program you will want to look at design books and so on.

Thanks Peggy, I do have quite a few books on design as I have been knitting for 11 years, and learned without ever cracking open a book. But as I said I was very surprised at what I did not know after looking at the Knitters Handbook!

I know what you mean--I've been a knitter for 47 years, and I still make discoveries!

If you don't have any already, some "stitch encyclopedias" would be good, as you get to do some swatches with your choice of cables, lace and cables in level 2, and who know what all in level 3!
A good finishing technique book or two would also be a good idea, especially when you do get to level 2. DianaD. (KnityGirl on Ravelry) |

Yes, stitch collections are pretty essential.
For myself, I didn't come across anything in level 2 that the Big Book of Knitting, plus On Your Way to the Masters articles, couldn't answer. And I gather the Stanley book is an excellent second source for the times Big Book is hard to follow. You'll need sources for the research paper in level 2, but I would urge you to wait until you get there and then decide what you need. This is even more true for level 3, in my opinion. |

If you do a search on the board you will find several postings on this topic with a wonderful list of others' favorite books. I have found it very helpful.

Thanks Peggy and Nancy. I do have Vogues Stitchionary Vol. 1. I have seen a few others I want to get. I did do a search on the list for books and that is how I found the Knitters Handbook. I still have not ordered my course because when I went to the order site the information I put in was like symbols in place of the letters. I am not sure if this is a security thing but I was apprehensive as I have had my account hit before for almost 900.00 so I am very cautious. I guess I will call and place my order.
Thanks Again |

You can also order by mail. I sent in mine for the first level that way, along with a check, because I had just been an identity theft victim.
For stitch books, let me recommend Barbara Walker, any or all of her Treasury books. |

I just placed my order. Yes Peggy once you get hit with fraud it makes you very cautious, I have had it happen twice now.
I am going to start picking up the Barbara Walker books. I know this may sound strange, but I have a binder of stitches and techniques that I have been adding to for years. If I see something new to me on the net I print it off and put it in the binder fr personal use only. I am so excited about getting my materials! |

That's not strange--it's a very good idea! (And maybe someday you can use it to write a book!)
Good luck--I hope you enjoy the program. |

I have those books - I'm just finishing my Basics course and have found them very helpful. I do have the Vogue stichionary book and love them for learning new stitches.

Thanks Peggy, I am rather proud of my information binders, I try to keep them very organized. I am finding myself buying more books lately and will have a nice little resource library going. I received my confirmation of my order so I should be receiving my materials any day now.
