Maybe I am thinking too much, but I have a question:

When I do embroidery the chart looks like the finished image.

When I knit with instructions, the order of the stitches as written is the order they are executed as they move from the left needle to the right, but when I double check the work, I read left to right, while I examine the work right to left.

So when looking at a knitting chart, is it a mirror image reflecting the order of the work being executed from left needle to right or is it an exact image as it will appear on the right needle?

Please advise when you are done chuckling Wink

When you read a chart you will usually see numbers on the edges. On the right side are odd numbers and on the left are even numbers. The numbers on the right are the right side of the work and you read them from right to left. When you do the wrong side you then read the next line up from left to right. If you don't see numbers or no numbers on the left then you will just purl or knit the stitches as you come to them. There is usually a key with patterns or if you are using a stitches book then there should be some kind of key or explanation in the book somewhere. If all else fails, maybe go to your LYS and ask someone to interpret it for you.

Hope that helps.
