Greetings:
I have just purchased the Basic Basic Basic course. I actually wanted to register for the Master's course because everyone knows what a "great" knitter I am but I thought I should start slow... Really, I am looking forward to learning and improving my knitting and look forward to starting this course. David |

Good for you. Even "great" knitters have room for improvement.

I am going to purchase the Basics CC as well. I have been knitting for 11 years and want to take the Masters class, but had read that the Basics class would be beneficial for the level 1 Masters. My long term goal is to start teaching and designing.
And as MAX wrote, to cut down on some of the "bad habits" Ed |

Good luck to you both!

Thank you all for your encouragement.
I have been knitting on and off for years. I learned from my mother (she is 91 years young now) when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I just picked it up again about 4 months ago after a few years of sewing. I find I enjoy knitting with Rowan Felted Tweed yarn and the extra dimension this yarn adds to my knitting projects. I realize I have a lot to learn about knitting. I have found a wealth of information on YouTube and in my library. Ed, I glad to see another man who knits on this site and is going to enroll in the Basic knitting course. I hope you will keep us all posted to your progress on this site. I know of no other male knitters. I knit in secret (home). I am a member of the local knitting guild and again the only male. Will keep you all posted. David |

Richard Rutt, a bishop (no less) who wrote the seminal History of Knitting, was himself a knitter. And there are quite a few male knitters in this forum. In addition, at least one of the best-known knitting instructors in my area is male. You may find you're part of a trend!

Hi David and Ed,
I wish you success in the Basics program. You do learn so much no matter what your knitting background. You can be a newbie or a veteran knitter and still gain more knowledge. You will be surprised at how much you will improve your knitting, and those stitches you think you may have down solid. In addition, I personally think it is a huge benefit to take the Basics course first. You definitely are more at ease going through the Masters courses down the road. It isn't just the stitches, patterns etc., you also learn to be more organized, and use a more critical eye of your own work. Keep in mind this is a learning process for us all. I'm in Level One now, I have so much more to learn. I've just completed Basics in Dec 08. Arenda was a WONDERFUL guide and reviewer of my work. I also was nervous at first, felt I had to be perfect right away. I stressed at not sending the swatches in right away. There isn't a time limit, but I will add, the longer you put it down, the longer it may take to pick back up. During the review process, Arenda with her critical eye, offered terrific suggestions so I could make the corrections or improvements needed. After using her suggestions, my work improved dramatically. Keep in mind, this isn't a test, you are learning to improve or correct your work. After using any resources you have, you produce the swatch required in each lesson and then send them in. When you receive them back, some suggestions for improvements are provided by the reviewer inserting the tiniest bit of bright colored thread on your swatch, along with the written review of your work. That's when the light bulb goes on, and you think to yourself, OH THAT IS HOW I SHOULD DO THAT STITCH. When you re-do it, it really looks much better. It doesn't matter one bit to me if you are a male knitter. I don't think anyone else cares either. The more the merrier. The knitting community loves to help. I have received many offers of help. You are most welcome here. Good Luck to you, have fun and enjoy the process. Sorry this was so long, but I just wanted you to know, don't feel alone with your knitting. Take care. |

David, I haven't received your order yet. You may want to change your mind. I live in Lexington, KY & if my husband knit, his name would be UK-Wildcats-SEC. (Did you see the game on Tuesday?) I'm not that big of a sports fan so I can probably be impartial!

I'm the instructor and I just received confirmation of your order this afternoon. TKGA notifies me when someone orders the course. I then put the materials in the mail. I'm going to the post office tomorrow.

Arenda,
My dear, dear new best friend. UK – Wildcats had a great 2008 year with a whopping 7 wins and only 6 looses. And the 63 to 5 loose to Florida, we can just throw that game out and pretend it never happened. What is a little football (win or loose) among such great friends. Don’t you agree? And I have received emails from several of your “students” informing me that you are simply the best instructor in North or South America. And I am lucky to have you as my instructor. So again… what is a little SEC football among friends? Oh, yes, one of the emails even mentioned what a great beauty you are and that your husband is certainly a lucky man to have you as his wife. So I am looking forward to a long and productive friendship with you, my new best friend. David Stack This email is intended for its recipient and does not imply sucking-up in any manner or from what-so-ever. |

I look forward to working with you. Since I really am not much of a sports fan I'm sure we will get along fine but watch out, your quarterback has to graduate sometime & the wildcats get better every year (or so my husband tells me).

Hi David,
Just had to add there are a few other men here on this site. I hope you feel welcomed by everyone. We are a friendly group here! I for one always appreciate that this simple art of yarn and needles brought us altogether. Nancy Knitski on Raverly |
