This forum is designed for students of the BASICS, BASICS, BASICS correspondence course. I will use it to post alerts for changes in the materials and you may use it to post questions for me or for other students.

I just saw this new topic area! I had to post something so it wouldn't be so empty!

How sweet! I invite all more experienced knitters to share their experiences with those starting out. I think we all remember the frustration of trying to decode our first pattern.

Count me in for aiding and abetting new knitters!
My maternal grandma taught me to knit when I was about 8, I got frustrated and rarely knit again until I got married nearly 28 years ago. Been at it off and on since (other crafts came into my life and I had to give them my all). But when all is said and done, knitting has always been my favorite. So as I get the chance to be online, I will check here and offer any help I can. Diana DianaD. (KnityGirl on Ravelry) |

I started the BBB course with Barbara. How do we get information to you now? This is probably the jump start I need to finish up.

Hi! I just now signed up for the course and I'm SO excited! I'm really hoping to get through the whole Master Knitter program by the time I'm 40. I'm 37 now -- is that a do-able goal?
Anyway, I wanted to start with the basics, since I'm self-taught and not sure I learned everything properly. I simply LOVE knitting, and can't believe I didn't discover it earlier! It's nice to meet all of you, and I can't wait for the first course to start! twiddlyfingers.blogspot.com |

How long it takes you to go through the Masters Program depnds on how much time you have to devote to it. I did a level a year, mainly since I wanted to work on projects on my own but we have many who start the next level as soon as they pass one.
The Basics class is a good place to start. You will learn essential techniques plus the discipline of looking critically at your own knitting which is a very important part of the Masters program. Arenda |

Thanks! I guess I'll just take it one day at a time and see how it progresses from there
I'm so excited. Do you mail the first part of the course to us, or do we download it? Or do they have the class on a schedule -- like it begins the first week of the month or something? I'm chomping at the bit -- can you tell? LOL. twiddlyfingers.blogspot.com |

Hi All,
I am going to be starting the BBB course as well. My course materials are on their way! I feel that I am ready to work hard and be open to criticism in order to improve. Greetings Aziyade, I am glad you are here. Like you, I hope to complete the Masters Program too. It's great to see another person here who is starting BBB. Arenda, Thank you for teaching this course and being available to answer our questions. Happy Knitting! Theresa |

Count me in for helping out where needed.
My grandmother taught me to knit and crochet in 1972. I took to the crocheting immediately and finally figured out the knitting in 1980 when she was in a nursing home, senile and paralyzed. I wish I had figured it out sooner. There's so much she did that I now want to learn. Guess that's why I'm here, to learn new stuff and how to do the old stuff better. Currently enrolled in Masters Level 1. Shari |

Hey, everybody:
I just got Lesson 1 in the mail yesterday! I'm going to OfficeMax tonite after work for office supply things and going to LYS tomorrow for 100% wool! Like you, Aziyade, I'm self taught and don't want to miss anything. I'm also planning on going through the Masters Program. If you guys are on Ravelry, I'm Leeza there, too. |

Oh, yah, this is an awesome site for those who have been knitting a little while or a long while.
My first project w/a pattern was Norwegian mittens, it was an original pattern, Per Gynt, in Norwegian. I figured since there was a graph it shouldn't be too hard. Well, I didn't know (and couldn't understand) to add stitches for the thumb gusset. I had to ask a very nice Danish lady to translate that part of the pattern into German for me, 'cos I could get that. After that I was off and running. Knitting circles have been a huge resource to me, on 2 continents. :-) |

Hello all,
I am also starting the Basic Course and can't wait to get my feet wet. I have crocheted since a young one, and have self taught myself to knit this past year. I just need to make sure my stitches are correct and what I think of as a knit, purl, cast on, cast off etc., are what they should be. I'm excited about the evaluation process. It's really the only way to know if my knitting is up to par as a beginner. Good luck to the rest of the newbies. unicornr |
