Okay, so I'm making this: https://www.dreamweaveryarns.com/catalog/images/sexylittleknits/bar.jpg
Except it's not striped, its just white. Well, look at the neckline, and you see its v-shaped. So Im making the neckline and Im decreasing stitches before and after 2 markers, but there are 4 stitches in between the 2 markers in the center. I don't understand why they're still there, and she doesn't address them again in the pattern, so Im assuming Im supposed to keep knitting them. She never said to decrease them, they're only mentioned twice, and the first time it says "Knit 4" and then "knit 2, attach another ball of yarn(which I don't have to do because it's not striped) knit 2"

Was I supposed to automatically know to decrease them, or will they somehow manage to not affect the neckline when I'm done? I'm getting really mad at this thing because some parts aren't making a whole lot of sense. It tells me to bind off when there are 10 stitches at each end and it reaches 85.5cm, but I don't know if those 4 center stitches are going to screw it up. I have to stop working on it because I don't want to get further and have to undo a bunch of rows for like, the 7th time

The opening in the "V" will start where it says "k2, attach another ball of yarn..". It is not a change of color, it is a division of your work.

I believe you and will do as you say, though I do not understand how that is supposed to work.

That's probably my lack of sleep at play, and that this is my first pattern that has ever had more than decreasing only one side.

Thank you

You start decreasing in the center of the work to make the V. Did the instructions not tell you to drop the first yarn after you come to the marker? You must do this.

Then you attach the new ball, and working with the new yarn, do your decrease, and work to the end, which is the start of the right shoulder of the sweater. Work back, DROP THE YARN, pick up the yarn you dropped previously, and work to the sweater's left side.

Each time you come to the first marker, you must drop the working yarn and pick up the one you left at the next marker.

Put those 4 stitches on a holder. Using the two separate balls finish the sides of the sweater up to the shoulder. Those 4 stitches will be used when you put ribbing or whatever other finishing you use on the edges of your V-neck.

According to the picture, the two edge stitches are knitted on each side, along with the shaping.

Yeah, after I posted I kinda stared at my piece and then it clicked. Thanks so much you guys, I've been screwing it up a lot, but now I think I got it.

Though I will be back later with a question for the front piece, because its not making sense according to the diagram -_-
