Has anyone made the dappled lace curtains from KnitPicks? I checked for pattern errata but there are no corrections. I'm wondering if i am missing something obvious? (like THAT would ever happenSmiler) i have read through the pattern and i have tried swatches, but for some reason cannot make it work. It's very easy and it shouldn't be a problem. The pattern is a multiple of 10 plus 4, which works out if you count the stitches in the row, except the beginning 2 stitches for each row (selvedge) are changed in the instructions. so i'm trying to figure why i ended up with extra stitches. I tried knitting it several different ways but it still doesn't work. i may have to dig into my Barbara Walker archive and pick something else Smiler

I made bathroom curtains using this pattern, and had no real problems. You do have to be very careful about the yos, but it came out fine. In fact, I am now using the same pattern for a triangular shawl and so far, so good.

Mice,
I just tried this pattern and it worked out fine. The only thing I might suggest is to put a marker between every pattern repeat and one 2 sts from each end so you remember your selvedge sts.

hmmm.. it must be me.. the pattern sections aren't really where my problem is though. it's in the beginning of each row. There are the two selvedge stitches and then, for example, K4 which is only repeated once, so that's 6 stitches and then you start the pattern section. I can't even get the swatch to work out right and i tried doing it "wrong" too Smiler just to see if it would work (a method that sometimes works for me but don't try to understand it Smiler)
maybe i should make something else? or maybe i shouldn't be watching tennis at the same time?

okay, now that i've had a giant bowl of the most yummy lentil soup Smiler i think i know what my problem is..
what i want to do is to make the panel smaller, and make two of them for each window. So i am trying to figure out how many stitches to start with. The instructions are for 198 stitches, although the pattern repeats are 10 plus 4. So i guess it's the math that is my sticking point. I tried making a swatch with 28, 24, even 14 stitches and it still doesn't work. So there is a discrepancy between the pattern stitches and the instructions? and those would be the selvedge stitches, right? Well, here's the thing--if i am making panels that are 30 wide instead of 48, how many stitches do i cast on?
okay, i think i need another bowl of soup Smiler

When I tried the pattern I just cast on 14 sts.-no selvedge sts. So wouldn't you cast on the number of sts. (divisable by 14) that would give you your 30 inch width and then 2 sts. on each side for selvedge sts.?

i think i finally got this figured out. Musta been the soup Smiler I decided that if 10 stitches was about two and half inches that all i needed to do was multiply, and then add the selvedge stitches to that..and my other thought was that if 198 stitches CO yielded a 48" piece, then 128 stitches was just about right for a 30" piece. (i actually did some math to get this!Smiler)
So i have about 3 inches knitted and it looks okay. I have three windows--two large and one small--so i might make the small one a different pattern. Also have a door with a window, so i could get really carried away if i don't go crazy first Smiler
i really don't know why it seemed so difficult. i think i was just not coordinating the pattern with the instructions. Thanks for the help!!
i knew i could ask on here..

Most horrible emotional crisies happen because the person in them is A. tired, B. hungry,C. drunk or D. has to pee. My rule in the case of horrible knitting fallout is 1. put the thing down and 2 don't pick it up until I have eaten, had a cup of tea, gone to the bathroom and done a crossword puzzle or read a chapter in something I like to read. When I get back it seems to have worked its way out and I can figure out what I did.
It seems that you have hit on the same solution to your knitting.
happy curtians, I hope you love them because you will look at them a lot.
