I'm almost done with the Reversibly cabled afghan! I'm so pleased with it! Good pattern and good directions. My only problem was paying attention well, that and my sore shoulder.. Mice
Thanks Dances... I bought an Ott lite (eeww i hate that spellin' ) yesterday!!! It was drastically on sale at our local Ben Franklin which is closing. I am so happy because I have wanted one for a long time! so I can actually see what I'm doing now and it's very pleasant light--but now I'll have to think of a new excuse for my mistakes Mice
Actually my reasoning is that "only God can make something perfect". Then I explain about the rug makers and weavers who always weave an error in their product because of that. I think this reasoning works very well.

Somehow I would bet that any rug maker would tell you that they have no need to weave flaws in. I know that anything I make has many unnoticed flaws, but it is a helpful saying none the less.

I finished the afghan!! It's really nice and i am pleased with it--I am sure I will use the pattern again sometime but not right away About a foot or so into it I found an error across the large middle section and had to take out quite a few rows and then found another error (I was mortified ) and took that out...and then miraculously! I was able to finish it without any more major problems. (and it's not a hard pattern--i just shouldn't do it while i watch TV) So I finished it and held it up to admire and whaddya know? there's an error. I could have spit nails! It's in another panel where I wasn't looking so hard for errors while I fixed the middle. A cable, that although it's twisted the right way, is "over" instead of "under". Well, it's not like I am going to take out 4 feet of afghan to fix it so there you are Isn't knitting fun? Mice
What do you mean by Teenage Godzillahood ? Describe please . It may be just what my 15 year old is going through right now but i have not heard this particualr way of expressing that mad mental stage.
This was the term I heard from another friend, describing her stepdaughter who she said morphed into godzilla. If you want the pseudo anatomical explanation, I suspect that when kids reach the age of ten or so, developementaly they go back through the first stages of development only they are too big to pick up and phisically discipline. They operate from their "lizard brain" and seem to have absolutely no connection between their actions and the consequences of their behavior. They also take all the lessons that they have learned as a child and start trying them out. My friend has fifteen year old twins and a twelve year old who they recently (after a careful medical workup and a lot of heart searching) identified as being bipolar. Things are further complicated by the father (Not mind you the husband) being an abusive drug addict and supplying the kids with drugs of various sorts. As you read on the pages here the mom lessons have to do with parenting is not a popularity contest, and as much as they kick, scream and whine they are secretly grateful for the limits. In counciling some women through this I found that ear plugs and a soft voice and a rock hard no were the best ways to get through it. My boys were relatively easy. It still was no picnic and when I think of some of the mess they danced with and how close they came to real harm, I am glad they are over most of it and in relatively safe water. Doesn't Godzillahood seem to just say it all in one mouthful?
