Hi. My name is Pam Walsh from North Carolina. My future son-in-law PFC Alan Newton was killed on Oct. 2 2009 in Afghanistan. I promised him I would make helmet liners for him and his comrades. Even though he is gone this is a promise I will not break. He has over 30 members from his team and also in "B" and "C" company. Each liner requires 175 yds of 100% wool so it's fire retardant. If anyone can donate yarn for this cause if would be a great help. Thank you everyone.

I am so sorry for your loss.

There is a helmet liner group that you may want to connect with. You will find a link for one such group at this site: Citizen Sam

I also am very sorry for your loss. My son returned from Iraq and had hoped to go to Afghanistan, but luckily he has a back injury that will keep him close to us. Luckily all of our military members have either not been sent overseas or when they did, returned safely.
You might also check with the national USO office. The number should be available through 1-800-555-1212. That is the general 1-800 information number. The helmetliner group I was with has shut down or would give it to you. If you have a base, or National Guard Unit near you, you could also try their family services organization. They could put you in contact with who could help you.

I dream of climbing mountains, hunting and going fishing with the kids. Then I wake up.

My thanks to PFC Alan Newton and his loved ones for the sacrifice he and you have made, and my condolences on your loss.

Like Lady wildcat, I have been able to welcome home my own military loved ones, but we are ever mindful of those who stay behind.
