My G-son just turned 1 and his folks want to have a church ceremony. I need to find a free pattern as $$ is tight this time of month(as opposed to being tight every other part of the month, I guess). Have been able to google a few but thought some of you might have a favorite one or two.

Hi,

Not sure if you are a member of Raverly but you could do a search there as well.

If you can't find a gown, I'd try a site like Berroco and look for a toddler dress and make the skirt longer.

If you want a top and pants outfit, see if your library can get you Elizabeth Zimmerman's book -- either Knitting Almanac or Knitting Around -- which has a pattern for leggings that you could convert into pants. Then do a little sweater for the top.

You might find some patterns at places like Lion Brand Yarn or Joann's. I just signed up at their sites and they have TONS of free patterns. Lion Brand might be the better of those two for patterns, but you have lots of choices either way.

Being that he is now one and not a newborn, you might need to adjust the sizing on any pattern you do find, but not a big deal I'm sure.

First, I am on Ravelry. Hate Lionbrands site as I am constantly having problems trying to log on. Have several friends who have quit it for the same reason.
Your right, I can find all sorts of patterns for newborns, but without totally redesigning the dress, I can't find a very lacy one for his size. He's not overly large, but he is a good sized baby. Have tried out 8 different dresses so far, they just aren't working out, so am hoping for a good pattern. The christening outfit our family had for years was lost when we moved out of state and the storage unit's employees emptied the unit because they didn't think we would get back soon enough to find out. They were right! So, we need a new one.

I've seen some cute toddler dresses at Berroco and Drops (a Scandinavian design company with patterns in English.) It's <http://www.berroco.com> and <http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/kategori_oversikt.php>

If none appeal to you, find a simple T-type top that you knit to end about mid-way down the chest, then increase lots of stitches and work the skirt in a lace pattern that you like.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your items in storage. And to lose a precious family heirloom that way . . . .

Thanks. I had completely forgotten about Garn's site. Went there and found 3 that I think will work fine.

Check out the shetland lace dress A Gathering of Lace. you could find it in your library or get it in through the interlibrary loan. it takes a couple of weeks but you can get any book at all through your library. that way. I have gotten a large number of knitting books that I was not sure that I wanted to buy, and after looking them over for a few weeks could decide if I wanted the book or just a few of the patterns.

Wish we had any libraries in the area that had much in knitting books. The closest town with a library has very few of them and I gave them my EZ books because her style drives me nuts. Would love to do the ez as pi shawl but her and mathematics are the bane of my existence. Sound like a crybaby, but even though I have GOL I can't do the patterns because a brain recognition problem keeps me from reading graphs or charts. All I can see are lines and dark blobs.
Found a perfect dress in the picture section of one of my Yahoo groups. Emailed the man who made it and he gave me info on how to enlarge it. Have about 12 in. done so far and it looks like it will work. When I get to the bodice is when I'll probably have problems in enlarging the sleeve openings and modifying the neck plus back closure.
