Where are the decent men's sweater patterns? It's really pathetic....I realize that women make up most of the knitters in the world now but does that mean that 99% of the patterns have to be for women?

My friends and I have been to three yarn stores in Denver and 99% of the patterns have been for women. Sometimes, we find something that is geared towards men and find it was published more than 3 years ago. We even found a nice Sirdar pattern that we all liked and for $10 we could buy a book that consisted of 3 men's patterns and the rest for women and kids. Why would I spend $10 for 3 patterns?

If I had a better idea of how to design a sweater, I would write my own patterns.

Ok, off my soapbox.
Happy holiday (too bad I have to work)!

I'm with you on this one, Jon. I have such a hard time finding sweater patterns that the men I know would actually wear. I let my son look through the Men in Knits book, and there was only one vest in there that he would wear. I let him look through the patterns on the site cc posted, and there were only two that said he would wear. There is a book called Simply Beautiful Sweaters for Men that I have not looked through. But so far, I've found very little my son would wear in the way of sweaters.

Jon, I don't know if you're into 2 color plus steek, but try the Dale of Norway patterns. Also a book from 3 yrs ago (sorry) is Simply Beautiful Sweaters for Men ISBN1-56477-379-5, Authors Linden Phelps and Beryl Hiatt. You might be able to track it down on Amazon, or at Patternworks. As a matter of fact, go to Patternworks website and see what they have floating around, or give them a call, I've always found them to be very helpful. PS if you're any where near the Bay Area, Stitchers West starts Friday. I'll be helping out at Sheep City Saturday and Sunday...

Thanks for all of your replys. I did look at the links and it seems that the Jaeger book is the most up to date and modern. I wonder what people would think if I made that Union Jack vest....LOL

I've seen the Men in Knits book in person and there are very few sweaters there that are decent.

Oh well, how many sweaters do I really need? LOL
