Have been searching online for a cape pattern. It looks like it is fur, but made from fun fur type yarn. A lady at the DRs office showed it to me but it had no information as to what company, website or blog it came from, just that it was downloaded in March '09. Found a lot of capes, but not anything as thick as this. Could it be from a pattern book? Love capes and this would be perfect for next winter or a night out at a nice event.

I dream of climbing mountains, hunting and going fishing with the kids. Then I wake up.

Capes? Wowee, yes! Look good!

Fun Fur yarn? Yeugh! I hate it!

Put it this way, I found little satisfaction in knitting with it. It is almost impossible to count the stitches on the needle, and somehow it didn't seem to matter anyway. The resulting effect is entirely controlled by the manufacturer of the yarn, and has nothing to do with the input I make.

Fun Fur Yarn is on my list of items, which following an enqiry by a potential client, I reply, "Yes, of course, but it will cost you fifty pounds!"

Best wishes, John

I knit, therefore I am.

There was a fake mink cape in a knitting magazine about five years ago -- either Interweave Knits or Knitter's. I'll do a search for it. I only remember it because it looked more like faux and less like fur. But it was brown and it was fluffy. I'm with John on the difficulty of knitting with fake fur. Halfway through a small scarf and I'm ready to give up.

I may be strange(delete that, the vote hasn't been tallied yet) anyway, I don't mind using faux fur. Have about 20 skeins of a color that would make the cape look like autumn haze mink, or whatever it's called. DH says it looks more like lion fur. Might even have a hat to match. Even have opera length gloves that I last wore at the General's dinner dance years ago when I decided to let DH wear his uniform and I opted for evening wear so I wouldn't have to be volunteered for anything for a change.

Sounds great! I adore capes, but I'm far too short to wear them, so I've got in the habit of turning past any cape-like patterns. Sorry I can't help in your quest!

Have you tried JoAnns? Below is a link for free patterns they have on their website (if you type capes into the search generator, you will find some fun fur patterns):

http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat3593

I suppose if you saw one you liked that wasn't fur, you could always adjust for that.
Hope this helps!

Yes, I imagine I will end up making the one that I want. It was a floor length cape with hood like the characters in Masterpiece Theater wear. In the past few weeks it has begun to dawn on me that most patterns I see can easily be done without too much trouble, so have stopped downloading most of them. Maybe I'm starting to get the "smarts" as Grandma used to say.
