Anyone have any good places on line to purchase buttons???

I am looking for a very plain, simple button that has a shank on the back. I searched Raverly and didn't find anything at all.

I am off to look at Joann's on line to see if they have anything.

Dear Nancy,

Type "Buttons" nto eBay and look no further!

Recently I have bought every button I could ever need, and some I don't need but liked the look. So many button stores; so much choice; so little time to knit everything that needs the buttons I like.

So I buy buttons I like, then look around for the knitting project that needs them! When we go on holiday, special buttons make a lovely souvenir. We were in New Zealand in a store that only sold things made of a particular shell - sort of blue mother-of-pearl, I forget it's name - and only bought a card of buttons. The cardigan I made for my wife later now sports them.

Have fun.

Best wishes, John

I knit, therefore I am.

John - your buttons are probably made of paua(pow-ah) shell. I have a ring from that and love the colors in it.

I am a small yarn shop in northern Michigan and have lots of buttons in my inventory--Are you looking for a particular color or size? How many do you need. I can e-mail you a picture, if it will help.

I too watch out for buttons to be used later. The family kids me about going to yard sales and first question is "do you have buttons?" A friend gave me her Mom's stash when she died(she knit/crochet kitchen towel toppers so used a lot of buttons)so now have 63 boxes of various sizes in shades of white/blue/red alone. I pushed in ones of the same size so each box has at least 6 cards in it. Also raid the bins at Goodwill and other thrift stores so now have over 30 Whitman Sampler boxes(the big ones) full. It's good I like to make cardigans. I also make faux pockets on sweaters and use buttons on the plackets as an accent.

I dream of climbing mountains, hunting and going fishing with the kids. Then I wake up.

When I'm in the market for buttons I always remember what my mom used to say. She was an expert seamstress and made lots of elegant clothing. She always said that there is nothing that makes a garment look home made and cheap like cheap tacky buttons. On the other hand nice buttons can compliment and complete a garment like very little else

I inherited several button boxes from relatives and have added from garage sales. there is nothing like a nice set of buttons to set off a nice sweater.

I agree! Lucky for me my knitting friend here out on the Bering Sea had a set of buttons that will work for me. I need to hit more yards sales in the summer and get a collection going. My mom has a great selection as well but she is on the other side of the lower 48!
