There is a way to get rid of the "jog" in your knitting. However, I am not the person to explain this to you.

I know in EZ (Elizabeth Zimmerman's books and her daughters books they talk about this.)

I did a search here at the site and this is what was pulled up---

I have tried to knit with out a jog but I haven't been able to get it down correctly.

I am sure there is someone else here who will give you some pointers.

Knitting in the round will always result in a spiral -- that's the nature of the beast, so to speak -- and that's the "layering" or "offset" you're seeing. Good on ya' for noticing!

There are several tricky ways to work around it, but they vary by the situation, so it would be hard to make a generalization here. Meg Swansen describes several in the context of her Dubbelmossa (color-stranded hat) pattern, and also in the Knitting Glossary DVD she made together with her mother, Elizabeth Zimmermann (a.k.a. EZ). One simple strategy is to have a plain column of background stitches, or other mini-pattern, running up each side "seam" between your main motifs.
