I have been working very hard and have finally released a brand spanking new version of my Knitting Chart Maker

http://jacquie.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/06/new_knitting_ch.html

Please try it out and give me some feedback - good or bad - those bugs need to be fixed!

It is totally free and can be used for anything you like.

Jacquie
What is the secret to setting the "applets" so it'll allow us to open the program. I'm getting as far as:

http://jacquie.typepad.com/Charts/knitChart.htm

where I get the title at the top with a blank page. I've looked in Internet Tools for advanced options and am not sure what has to be activated (if it isn't already, but I thought it was). Please advise. Anxious to give it a try with my latest sock cabling pattern.

Mmm, yes.
I reached your blog (love those socks, and the views from your deck).
Clicking on the Chart Maker link took me to a one-second Flash for Java and then all was blankety-blankness.

Tried it again and the page froze.
Kicked my computer (not good for the knees or the computer).

Tried it again and there it was! That is SO neat, Jacquie! I just "designed" a row consisting of 4 knits, a bobble and a lot of special stitches.

Thank you for the gift; I love it!

Maybe you need to install the Java Plug-in, Auntie Carrot. You can download it from here:

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

If you have Java then maybe it isn't activated in your Browser.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Jacqui, my rickety old computer was able to access your chartmaker! At first I was skeptical because the whole page under the heading appeared to be blank--then I got smart and scrolled down and viola! Looking forward to giving it a go.

Thanks,
Jude

For Mac users - I had to download the latest version of Java (as Jacquie describes above) and used Safari instead of Firefox. Works beautifully!

Thank you, Jacquie!

PS - I am on a PowerPC G5 Mac running OS 10.4.9

Ooh, what fun!
Thanks, Jacquie.

I figured out how to "erase" -- hit same spot with k1/p1 symbol over the booboo.

What about some twist-symbols, for travelling knit stitches moving across purl background? (For open cables/diamonds and Bavarian twisted stitch patterns.)

Thanks so much! I hope to use it someday. I did notice one tiny little thing but it's a spelling error Smiler
Did you intend for everyone to save this program? because there doesn't seem to be a way to save it? (for example, as a PDF)
I won't use Firefox or Mozilla, sorry Smiler
I did update my Java though which should have been done a long time ago.

Bearing in mind that my computer skills are strictly seat-of-the-pants:

The Chart Maker is a program and I don't believe you can save a program as a pdf or any other file format. (Somebody stifle me if I'm wrong.) However, it's possible to save the design you create. The directions for saving as a Notepad file are near the bottom. The drag-and-drop selection thingy doesn't work for me, so I've just been printing newly-hatched designs. (If I weren't so lazy I suppose I could scan the printouts and save THEM.)

Just curious, Mice: why won't you use Mozilla software?

you know? Smiler i'm curious too! i can't remember what my objections were..i think it's because i don't need a lot of the features so i didn't see much point in changing. I know a lot of people rave about it though.
I read through the Mozilla site again just to be sure Smiler I'm fairly content for the things i need and use so...i guess i'll stick with XP Smiler

Thank you so much. Smiler
I am far from a "digital native", and to find a program so intuitive is a wonderful gift.
Double thanks: just as I am prepping a demo for my guild on nupps, I'll be able to have some professional-looking charts.
