I am looking at a pattern for a double knit hat. The center is knit in garter stitch making a tube that calls for grafting the beginning row to the last row in garter stitch to form a circle. The only kitchner stiich I know is for stockinette stitch. Does anyone know anything about this technique? Thanks in advance for any info. Janis Collins
I used this technique to finish a garter-stitch-based lace sock cuff and posted a video on YouTube. It would include some details (stitch-count, etc.) that might not be relevant to your project, but the grafting is the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prMjl3T7a5U
You can probably find more online resources, as well as print references, but perhaps this will help.
Hi i used this technique to close some garter stitch slippers, it is quite simple. the directions can be found in E zimmerman's book: Knitting without Tears on page 29 and is called "garter stitch weaving". let me know if you don't have this and I will email you with the instructions, it is short.
If you finish both sides with either a purl row or a knit row, you can graft them together with the kichener stitch if you have both garter ridges facing you.
