Hi All,
I am knitting a "V" neckline in a K1, P1 rib.
The decrease is a vertical double decrease to be done every other row. in the center front of the K1, P1 rib.
So, every other row is, of course, a plain K1, P1 rib.
My question:
Do I need to stay to the K1, P1 rib pattern as I knit rows immediately above/below the double decrease. Or is it better to do 3 knit stitches in a row to better facilitate making the double decrease in the next round?
If I were to graph my question out it the choices would look like this:

K1, P1, K1
dbl dec (3 sts)
K1, P1, K1

or K1, K1, K1
dbl dec (3 sts) then go back to P1,K1,etc
K1, K1, K1

I hope this question isn't too confusing in the way I have asked it.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Theresa

Uh, please never mind.
I think my question above makes no sense and if I just go ahead and start knitting this, it'll all work out OK as I go along.
Have a great day,
Theresa

I think you came to the best solution to try out your approach. If you don't like it, you can rip it back. If you don't want to do this with your project, do a small practice swatch in k1,p1 rib.

Also, what double decrease you use will affect which approach you take. If you do slip two stitches together as if to knit, work next stitch and slip both stitches over, this will give you a double decrease where the center of the three stitches will be on top. If you do a slip one, k2tog (or p2tog), passover, that will give you a different look as will k3tog or p3tog, or k2tog (or p2tog), put back on holding needle and slip next stitch over the two, place back onto working needle.

Hi KT,
Yes, you are right.
I am doing the slip 2 sts together (at the same time) knitwise, then knit the next st off the left needle and slip both sts over that.
On every other row where I am not decreasing, and around the dbl. decrease itself, I need to stay with a K1, P1 rib.
I keep getting confused about if I need to do anything special with doing this dbl. decrease inbetween, and next to, all the rows of K1, P1 rib.
Anyway, I just need to jump in and do it and see if it just works itself out naturally.
I am a specialist in turning mole hills into mountains, it seems.
I'm going to tackle this neckline tomorrow on my day off.
Thanks so much!
Theresa
