whew!! i'm glad my name isn't Denise Smiler
sorry, i'm still stalling in the ordering interchangeables department. somethin' to do with car maintenance bills? anyway, i have this idea that if i use a longer (32") circular that is more flexible, maybe it will be easier, and if i can get away with just pulling a loop out of the extra length, then i will. i just don't see how the short 16" will be enough. It doesn't even look like 16"..more like 5", but hey, i've had a headache for 3 days so what do i know? Smiler

My hubby's name is Bruce. So when I see Bruce wax, or Bruce's Yams, I tease him about it. Sometimes I've seen knitting notions that have the brand name of Diana on it. I always think of them as mine! Haven't seen them for a while, so maybe the company is out of business.
But I was looking at my newest Knit Picks catalog and Hubby wants me to get the Harmony wooden needle set, even though I have the Boye set. So I might just do it. Just not right now. My birthday is in a couple of months, so maybe then.
I have sometimes had the needle tips start to unscrew, but I can feel it doing it before it comes completely off. I mostly have the problem of getting them to unscrew when I'm done. I had to replace the little rubber pad that comes in the set. The original one cracked, so I got one of those rubber jar opener thingeys and use that to put on and take off the tips. Getting a good grip seems to be the secret.

i'm wondering if i could use a longer circular instead? and just pull a loop out in the middle?

That is "Magic Loop" in a nutshell.
And it does require that the cable be pretty flexible, and least, say, 29" long for a sock, so that the extra loop stays loopy.

Knit Picks sets come with two 24" and two 36" cords, IIRC. You can also order cords separately, in sets of 2, and up to 40" long, or longer. Tips from size 4 to 11; smaller sizes in "fixed" (vs interchangeable) only.

Boye also lets you order cables separately; stiffer than the KP. Tips from size 2 to 15.

i have friends who would describe me as "the extra loop that stays loopy" Smiler
i finished the cowl last night and sort of blocked it this afternoon..it didn't really require much fussing..i hope my friend likes it. Our weather has been very very cold so maybe this will be a timely gift.
i'm thinking that i might go with the KnitPicks needles when i am flush again Smiler i appreciate all the advice, and Diana? please forgive me..it was one of those days when i wrote that!

Mice,
Believe me, there's nothing to forgive! I have an offbeat sense of humor, so I'm not easily offended for one thing, and besides, I've been here long enough to know that most things said along those lines are said in jest! If anything you said bothered me, I would let you know. It actually gave me a good laugh that morning before I left for work. Big Grin
