Hello everyone!!
I am new to this message board and I was wondering if anyone could help me with edges.I am making scarves and the edges roll terribly. How do I prevent this from ocurring? I am doing a stockinette pattern and I have tried several different methods. Can anyone help? |

Greetings, dear Knitter.
If you are following a published pattern for a scarf involving stockinette, then I can assure you the designer knew the piece would roll and that is what is intended, because that is what this stitch does, and there is no "cure." If you just thought you would knit a scarf, just to see what happens, then a reversible stitch will usually lie flat, if that is the sort of scarf you want. Reversible stitches suitable for scarves include: Garter stitch - knit every stitch, every row. Rib: Cast on an even number of stitches. Every row: [K1, P1] repeat to end. Double rib (my favourite - I have made a number of scarves like this during the past year) Cast on a multiple of 4 stitches. Every row: With yarn forward, S1 purlwise, P1, K2 then [P2, K2] rep. to the end of the row. Seed stitch [called moss stitch here in the UK] Cast on an odd number of stitches. Every row: K1,[P1, K1] rep. to end. Double Moss Stitch Cast on an even number of sts. Rows 1 & 2: [K1, P1] rep. to end Rows 3 & 4: [P1, K1] rep. to end . . . and many others Good luck and have fun, john |
