Hi,

I wanna knit a scarve using the wave stitch or the king charles brocade pattern. However, the sides look untidy.

Can anyone advise on how to rectify the problem?

Thank you.

I am not sure what your pattern looks like but you may need to add a border to the scarf a nice simple knit every row border should help take care of this. Knit 4 sts or whatever looks nice to you and then start the pattern and end with 4 knit sts.

I looked up the King Charles Brocade pattern and saw a dishcloth made with it that has a garter stitch border and looks nice.

Basically, you need an edging that will lie flat. Garter stitch or seed stitch (moss stitch, if you're from the U.K.) will usually do the trick. Four stitches is usually enough.

I made a scarf a few years back that had an I-cord cast on, with edges (selvages) that looked like I-cord, and then an I-cord cast off. It was a cable/lace pattern, so that worked well because cables and I-cord tend to go well together.

Really, there are a couple of solutions, so start with the look of the main stitch pattern and then figure out which edging is the best complement.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

I shall try out the patterns mentioned and see what works for me. Wink
