Rox...I need your visual representation of how to duplicate a stitch...I have been weaving in my yarn tails for the past 6 years in a different way...the article on the Masters website isn't very visual oriented...got any suggestions?
I am more of a watch and then do kind of gal if you have any knowledge of videos out there. I just went on you tube and found them to be utterly UNHELPFUL as well as the knittinghelp.com website (which I love) but she does it the same way I do it. Spranger (speedthesticks on ravelry) |

Knittinghelp.com is where I learned to do reverse duplicate stitch. In the Joining a new color section (Advanced techniques). You follow the path of one row of stitches. The easiest way to see the path is to knit a single row of a contrast color within a swatch of another color. So maybe 10 rows of one color, 1 row of contrast, then 10 rows of the first color again.
When you flip the work over, you'll notice there are columns of bumps. Alternate columns of bumps line up horizontally, where the columns between line up with each other, but are offset compared to the column on either side, so you'll see something like this: _-_-_-_-_-_ _-_-_-_-_-_ There are 4 rows of bumps represented here. If the top row represents the heads of stitches for a particular row, then row 3 (from the top) represents the heads of the stitches in the row below it. Row 4 represents the running threads for the top row heads. Row 2 represents the running reads for the row above the top row. If you want to follow the path of the stitch represented by Rows 1 and 4, from right to left, you'd do the following: Insert the tapestry needle through the right-most Row 3 head and the right-most Row 2 running thread from bottom to top. So the needle will be pointed at an angle like / to go through the backs of those two sts. Now insert it down through the 2nd from right Row 2 running thread and back through that right-most Row 3 head at this angle \. Now insert it up through 2nd from right head (Row 3) and 2nd from right running thread (Row 2) /, then down through 3rd from right running thread and 2nd from right head \. If you follow the path of that single contrast row, it'll be easier to understand what's going on. |
