I have chosen a beautiful Karabella Aurora 8 for my Aran sweater. I would call it a medium color, not dark, but want to be sure it is ok before I proceed. I chose the yarn for the great stitch definition and it feels wonderful. I don't often wear light colored sweaters and would love to wear this one after all this work! I would call the color is teal, its their color #43. Is this ok?

It's driving me crazy that no one has answered you.:-) I guess Arenda's away.
I'm no one official, so I can't give you a real answer, but I know there is a lot more leeway in the projects, especially the level 3 projects. By now they know whether you have tension problems! If the color's medium, I'd take a chance and start on it until you get a definitive reply. |

It's making me a little crazy too that I haven't heard. I have swatched and am ready to go! It really isn't a dark color...I guess I'll start but would really like a reply!

Sorry. I have been out of town and then catching up. Darker colors are fine in projects--just not black, navy, dark gray for an aran. These might be ok for contrast in a fair isle.

Resurrecting an old thread to ask a similar question.
I'm considering designing a traditional Gansey, and have some of the yarn (Wendy) still made there. The supplier I'm familiar with carries 4 colors, and I favor the lighter "marine blue", #674, not the navy. It's still rather dark, though. Here's a link to the Schoolhouse Press page for the yarn http://www.schoolhousepress.com/Gansey.htm . The photos show the yarns a bit lighter than the appear "in person". Given that dark blue is the most common "traditional" color, would it be acceptable to go that way, or would it pose just too much difficulty for the examiners? The lighter alternatives would be bright red or cream, and I would personally prefer to wear something more middling. Ooh, real gansey yarn! I wonder how many I would want...Sorry, I got distracted.:-)
If you can't do it in the color you want, MtMom, do it in cream and dye it when it comes back from TKGA! |

Dye it, hmmmmm. . . .
Interesting idea, PeggyR. Thanks! My skills in that area are rather limited, however. Dye penetration might be affected by the requisite snug gauge. I know you can always over-dye, but I'd be scared not to get something I like, after All That Work. I don't know. . . . It is a sort of intimidating idea, I admit!

So dye a swatch in a small batch of the dye you would use and see how it looks. Better to like or hate a small sample then chance it with the whole sweater! Swatching taken to a whole new level!
