Well,

After a bad job loss, unemployment, and finding another job and then...a computer loss, I am back on the board.

Through it all my Level 1 was completely ignored and now I have till July to get it finished. If I don't do I have to pay again? I do hope not. I don't have to funds to sign up again.

I've been working on Level 1 for almost two years now.

You don't have to pay again, just ask for the most current directions. You can call them and have it snail mailed or do what I did and email them and they'll email it to you.

Just do it before the anniversary of when you originally got the directions. I got mine in July and had to get the latest directions in July.

Welcome back, BJR!

Money-wise, I think the only thing you need to pay for -- once you have the directions -- is the annual TKGA membership fee, to keep it current. Or maybe not even that. The program is meant to be very open-ended.

The only thing that "expires" after one year is the promise that the instructions you received tell exactly what you'll be expected to submit. (Don't know if I worded that very well. . . .) If it's been longer, and IF the requirements have been changed in some way, you'll need to ask for and match your notebook to the newer version.

Here is what the TKGA site says:

Don't Work from Outdated Instructions

You have one year from the date of receiving your initial instructions to complete that version of the instructions. If you have not submitted your work within a year, check the dates below to see the date of the most recent revision for your instruction level. If an updated version is available, you must obtain and complete the updated instructions instead of your original version. You can obtain the updated instructions for free - simply contact TKGA for a FREE update.

Current versions of all Masters Program instructions:

Hand Knitting
Level 1 – 04/02/07
Level 2 – 04/16/08
Level 3 – 11/26/07

Just think of me as nodding my head in agreement with Mt. Mom's and Shari's posts. No matter how long you take, you never have to buy the level 1 instructions again.

I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that you don't even necessarily have to keep your TKGA membership current while you work on the Master's levels, you only have to have a current membership when you submit your materials. So if you know that it's going to take you two years to work on a level, you could theoretically let your membership lapse while you work. The down side to that is that you don't get the Cast On magazine with the On Your Way to the Master's articles and you can't access the Member's Only parts of the website.

I have renewed my TKGA membership and hope to get my computer back soon. In the meantime, I will do as much of the lesson as I can without it. It will get done one way or another...

Thanks for all the answers!!
