Just wondering if a simple bulky machine like the BOND or Singer LK-100 can be used for the Master machine knitting program? Also can it be used through all the levels or would one be constantly trying to re-adapt 4.5mm instructions to 9mm instructions. I'm in the process for trying to hunt down and find an electronic mid-guage machine, but picked up a simple bulky to start with. Also do folks know of any good sources for older metal bulky knitting machines (other than ebay which is overpriced and subject to people who don't know how to ship delicate breakable items)?

If you are looking for a used metal bed machine, you may be able to find one from the knitting for sale yahoo group. You must first join the knittingmachines yahoo group and then join the knitting for sale group. There are a few dealers on the knitting machines group that sell used machines. Also check www.craigslist.org for machines for sale in your area. Good luck

Hi,

The only electronic midgauge machine I know of is the Silver Reed machine (860). Go to the Silver Reed website and then click on dealers. Many times dealers have used machines for sale.
Electronic bulky machines ,hmmm, I'm not sure they are being produced. Silver Reed (formerly Singer, and some other names) used to make these machines. Brother used to make the electronic bulky machine (270) and sometimes former brother dealers still have them.
Some former brother dealers are: www.northtipton.com
www.knitsewworld.com
www.daisyknits.com
www.advcreations.com
www.dnitandsew.com
www.customknitsmfg.new
www.prairieknits.com

They have websites and frequently sell used machines. I have been machine knitting for over 15 years and I would buy from any of these people. They should know how to ship the machines in a well packaged manner. They will also probably be cleaned, with new sponge bars and ready to knit. Good luck.

Hi,
I forgot to say I have been using a brother 260 (a bulky machine using a punchcard to select needles for programming) for years and I love it.

Hi, Knitters,

Preliminary research is showing me there is a huge variety of knitting machines out there. I have a Passap Vario, which apparently is quite basic. Can I do the MK Master's with such a basic machine?

Thanks.

Oops, just checked the MK Master's description again and it says "not for Passap." Rats. That's what I get for dragging my feet when they were still offering a Passap version!
