Does anyone know if the new 2007/2008 Harmony Guides to knitting edited by Erika Knight are significantly different from the older ones listed in the Master Hand Knitter bibliography?
There seem to be less of them (4 as opposed to 5), so I was wondering if the new series left some important things out or just reorganized?
The new Harmony Guides are VERY different from the old ones. They are beautiful but since Erika Knight is English she has changed many of the abbreviations to British ones. For example, they use SKP decreases rather than SSK. I only have the Lace one so I can't speak for the others but they don't chart anything which seems very odd. The trend is to chart.
Just a thought, is it possible to still get copies of the old Harmony guides? I have a couple, but now that these new ones are in print, where, besides Ebay, might I get the older copies? I would like to get them if possible.

'The Woolery' has two of the Harmony Guides listed on their website. I've bought several things from them and they are super nice and ship immediately. Nancy
Hi fibernating (Nancy), How nice to see another Pennsylvanian here. There only seems to be a few of us here. I live in SW Pa, where approximatley in the state are you? I've seen ads for the Woolery when I used to spin my own fibers, but never bought from them. I'll have to check them out. Thanks!

The Woolery is my primary online source for spinning supplies. They shipped me my first spinning wheel, my first fleece, my English combs, and accessories from niddy-noddy to McMorren balance; and when I couldn't find Alden Amos's Big Book and Mabel Ross's books, the Woolery had them. My sisters always get me gift certificates from the Woolery for birthday and Christmas presents.
I always send a check rather than charge things through their site. But that could just be me being overly cautious.
Oh, and as for the Harmony Guides, I do have one of the new ones, the one with the Aran stitch patterns. I bought it a year or two back and usually used Walker instead--until this past month, working on the sweater for Level 3. It groups cable patterns by number of rows so it's easy to find compatible cables.
Fibernating, Great! I live in Westmoreland Co. also! Just outside of Greensburg in Hempfield Township. Mailing addy is New Stanton. We might just have to find a way to meet up if you're willing. Invitation open to anyone else who's interested.
